Prologue
I was kidnapped in Haiti on April 12th, 2023, and held for 43 days. I was beaten, terrorized and tortured. I escaped for about 8 hours but only made it about a mile before I was recaptured by a neighboring gang and returned to my cell. It was terrible. I lost about 50 pounds before being released on May 24th last year.
This year, over the next six weeks, starting April 10th (to get the days of the week to match up as we tell the story), my wife Mary and I will share our story here — in ‘real time’.
As you can imagine, this will not be an easy story for us to tell. So why tell it? Well, because we are hoping to raise awareness of the atrocities taking place in Haiti every day. I’m hoping that as we share our most devastating moments, we will also be able to show you our absolute optimism surrounding the many clear opportunities we have as outsiders to come to the rescue of the many innocent and worthy individuals that need us in Haiti and elsewhere.
This will be a call to action.
If you decide to “join us”on this journey, there will be lots of dark days. However, there will also be miracles, hope and healing. This is a story of great pain, but also of growth, inspiring sacrifice and triumph.
Thank you for your willingness to read/listen to something hard. We are excited to get to know our audience. Anyone willing to consume this kind of content is our kind of people! So please reach out and provide lots of feedback. We are doing this about a week in advance of each release so there will be opportunities to react to your questions/requests. We’ve never seen anyone do anything quite like this so your insights will be helpful.
Lastly, It’s important to Mary and I that you all understand that we will not benefit from this financially. We are not trying to sell a book or a movie, land paid speaking gigs etc. If we ever do anything like that, 100% of the proceeds will go to our 501c3 or similar. We are not paid a dime through our 501c3 (or any other).
We have been richly blessed in our business dealings that have allowed us to focus entirely on humanitarian efforts today.
Okay. Enough. Let get going! :)
